Start with intent, not chemistry
The single biggest predictor of a failed international match isn't distance — it's two people wanting different things and not saying so. State your relationship intent plainly on your profile, and take it seriously when someone else does too.
Video call earlier than feels necessary
Texting for weeks before a video call is one of the most common patterns in both mismatched expectations and romance scams. A short video call early on tells you more in five minutes than two weeks of messages.
Language gaps are normal — plan for them
You don't need to share a first language to build something real. Be upfront about what languages you speak, use simple phrasing early on, and treat translation tools as a starting point, not a substitute for patience.
Money requests are a hard stop
No legitimate international relationship requires you to send money, gift cards, or crypto — especially not urgently, and especially not before you've met in person. Treat any request like this as a reason to stop and report, not negotiate.
